It opens on the board: four pads, each with its own note, its own colour and its own shape. Touch any pad and the game begins — the board plays a sequence, you play it back. Get it right and it grows by one step, and the game moves a little quicker.
The board plays the sequence: colour, shape and note together.
The ring in the middle shows how long you have, and drains while you think.
Miss, and the board lights the pad it should have been.
What it does
- It opens on the game: no menu, no start button, no account. The first touch is already the first move.
- A pad answers when the finger goes down, not when it lifts: in a game measured in milliseconds, waiting for the release is unfair as well as unpleasant.
- The tempo tightens with the sequence, continuously: there is no difficulty to choose and no threshold to cross, and this round is measurably quicker than the one before it.
- The middle ring is your patience: it drains while you think and fills again with every correct answer, because the time is per tap, not per sequence.
- Never three identical flashes in a row: nobody can count those, and a game that makes you guess how many there were is not a memory game.
- Your best run stays on the phone, and goes nowhere else.
- In English and Italian, following the phone's language.
The sequence is a melody, not four colours
The four notes are pentatonic and rise from left to right: any sequence the game can generate is consonant with itself, and it can be hummed. That is where the real memory aid is — most people hold on to the tune far longer than to “blue, blue, pink”.
The notes are not recorded: they are computed as you play, a few kilobytes of arithmetic instead of audio files, with nothing to download on first launch and no licence behind any sound in it.
Every pad also carries a shape and a vibration of its own: colour is never the only thing telling two pads apart, so the game can be played in silence, and by someone who cannot tell the four hues apart.
Your data stays yours
Mimic does not listen: no microphone, no location, no access to photos or files, no account and no servers of ours. The best run and the sound preference stay on the phone and leave with the app when it is uninstalled. Permissions stop at internet, which the ads need, and the vibration under the finger.
How it is paid for
One banner anchored at the bottom, and that is all: no ad between the sequence and the answer, no subscription, no lives to buy. If a full-screen ad appears, the run is already over.
