Kick, snare, rim, clap, three toms, closed and open hat, shaker, cowbell and cymbal. Laid out the way a drum machine is — heavy and low at the bottom, bright and short at the top — because that is the layout hands already know.
Kick, snare, toms, cymbals and percussion, all under your thumb.
The pad lights under the finger, and the sound goes with it.
Every sound is computed as you play it: no files, no download.
What it does
- A pad sounds when the finger goes down, not when it lifts. A pad that waits is a pad that is late, and late is the one thing a drum machine cannot be.
- Every pad carries its family's colour, even at rest: the grid reads before it is played.
- Every hit lights the pad and taps the phone under the sound.
- Retriggering works: two quick hits sound twice, instead of cutting the first one off.
- In English and Italian, following the phone's language.
No samples: the sounds are arithmetic
All twelve sounds are computed, not recorded: a sine whose pitch drops for the kick, filtered noise for the hat, three offset bursts for the clap, inharmonic partials for the cymbal. The whole kit is a few hundred kilobytes of arithmetic rather than a bundle of audio files, there is nothing to download on first run, and there is no licence to chase behind any sound in it.
Your data stays yours
Pads does not listen: no microphone, no account, no server of ours. The permissions stop at Internet, which the ads need, and the vibration that goes with the hit.
How it is paid for
One banner anchored at the bottom, and that is all: no ads between hits, no subscription, no pad held hostage.
