In short

Permissions and what they are for

PermissionWhyWhat leaves the device
Internetads; speech synthesis, only if the engine works onlinesee “Advertising” and “The voice”

The voice

Hollow reads its sessions with the text-to-speech engine installed on the phone (usually “Speech Services by Google”). The app only hands it the session texts, which we wrote and which are the same for everyone: nothing about you. Depending on the engine and the voice chosen in the phone's settings, the speech may be synthesised on the device or on the engine provider's servers, under its own policy (for Google: policies.google.com/privacy). We declare it because we cause the reading, even though we do not perform it.

Advertising

Hollow shows ads through Google AdMob. AdMob may collect and process:

Google processes this data as an independent controller. Policy and options: policies.google.com/technologies/ads

You can limit personalised ads from your system settings:

In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, Google's consent message appears on first launch; until you answer it, the app requests no ads at all.

Data that stays on the device

App preferences (favourites, streak, voice pace, sound) are stored on the device only and are removed when you uninstall the app.

Children

The app is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect their data.

Your rights

With no account and no backend, we hold no data about you and cannot identify you. For data processed by Google AdMob, exercise your rights directly with Google, using the contacts in its own policy.

Any question: write to us through the contact form on mindcontact.app.

Changes

Any change to this policy updates the date at the top. Previous versions remain in the history of the public repository mcma-docs.
